Happy New Year | Putt Better for 2009

Well, it's the time to wish you all a very Happy New
Year and to look forward to a great 2009!

We belive that 2009 will be the year that you make
great strides in your golf game and we're here to help
you do just that.

Many of you already belong to our membership site and
as you know we have almost 16 hours of video
instruciton back there covering every possible swing
malfunction that you could think of!

Whether you are hitting it fat, thin, left, right,
off plane, or no power - you name it we have it
covered.

In addition we also have a very active forum where
you can ask questions and get answers to all of the
swing maladies you may have.

Many of you send us emails asking questions about
your swing and we look forward to receiving those and
providing the answers to your question, so please
don't stop!

2009 is already a very busy year for us. We have the
PGA Show in Orlando Florida in January, our Junior
Player Development Bash on the Beach in February with
Juniors coming from around the world.

This Bash on the Beach is open to all Juniors and
included in the Instructional Staff this year is
mental game guru, Carey Mumford.

Carey has worked with over 300 Tour Players around
the world, as well as the PGA of America, showing
players how to overcome the "mental jitters" and how
to incorporate mental training during practice and
playing rounds.

Wouldn't it be really cool if you could control your
thoughts during a round!

You can read about the Bash by going to
http://snipurl.com/9a8jn

Now let's talk about a little something that will
help your game.

If your golf swing never changes but, you learn
better short game techniques, then you WILL drop 5-7
shots off every round - plain and simple!

A good short game is the great equalizer for those
whose ball striking is less powerful than others so
let's start with putting.

There are basically two types of strokes for putting,
Arc putting and non-arc putting.

To go along with these two types there are also two
ways to power the putter - shoulders (pulling) or
trailing arm (pushing), for right-handers that is the
right arm.

An example of someone that powers the stroke with
their right arm would be Jack Niclaus, probably the
best clutch putter of all time.

Players that use this type of stroke also use the
non-arc style of putting.

The right elbow bends and straightens powering the
stroke just like a piston - pushing the club through
the ball while keeping the sweetspot of the putter
"looking at the target", no sweetspot rotation!

If you are a left-eye dominate person, and a
right-handed player - then this is the ONLY procedure
that will work consistently.

Left-eye dominate players MUST open their bodies to
the target line so that they SEE the line. Otherwise
when they set up they will ALWAYS aim to the right of
target. This now requires that the face be closing
through Impact.

If you are an arc style putter - like Ben Crenshaw -
then the player MUST align square to the target.

Arc style putters use their shoulders to power the
stroke - pulling the club through Impact. With this
type of stroke the sweetspot of the putter opens and
closes during the stroke making ball location
absolutely critical!

Out of all of the players that have come to our schools
only ONE player has aimed the putterface to the target
and he is 11 years old...AND a great putter!

We recently had a player that had won over 30
tournaments around the world and when we measured them
they were aimed eight inches to the right of the hole
- the player is left-eye dominate!

Now you could argue that this player has had a lot of
success doing what they are doing and you would be
correct. But aiming that far to the right and having
to close the face just enough is a tough thing to
measure.

I wonder how many more tournaments they could have
won IF they had been aiming where they thought they
were!

Once we showed this player how to set up - ala
Nickalus style - they aimed the putter perfectly every
time!

So the choice is yours...keep doing what you've been
doing, and getting the same results, OR make a New
Years resolution to get serious about improving your
game. Either way we're here for you and will be gald
to help anyway we can.

OK, enough for now.

We'll have a couple of more announcements around the
first part of February to share with you so until
then...Happy New Year!

Chuck & Randy

P.S. We may also be moving our subscribers to a new
service. This new service will allow us to send better
quality newsletters to you and to keep up with the
growth we are experiencing. If we decide to do so you
will be asked to optin (re-subscribe) again. We hope
you do, we don't want you to miss out!

One last thing.

We are professional golf instructors and we do this
for our living. It is not a hobby for us and we take
your game very seriously and we don't have a "day job"
this IS our job...making players better!

Holiday Greeting

We would like to take this time to wish you a Joyous Holiday
Season and a prosperous New Year.

I'll keep this short and sweet.

There are tons of things that a golfer COULD do to improve but
if they only do these three things they will strike the ball
with more compression than they have ever imagined!

If you need more info on how to incorporate these three things
in your game just give us a shout!

Three Things That All Golfers Can't Do Enough Of

Yes, there are many things that golfers can do better but there
are three things specifically that golfers just can't do enough
of.

1. They can't keep the right wrist bent long enough
2. They can't drive the clubhead into the ground deep enough
3. And they can't keep moving the right shoulder down plane far enough

Let me explain how these work.

1. They can't keep the right wrist bent long enough

The number one alignment in golf is a flat left wrist. Without it nothing
else makes much difference and the player will always have
erratic club face alignments. The key to having a flat left
wrist is maintaining a bent right wrist. The longer the player
keep the right wrist bent through the stroke the longer the left
wrist will stay flat. This flat left wrist helps to maintain the
clubface alignment and minimize clubface twisting.

2. They can't drive the clubhead into the ground deep enough

Most players do not drive the clubhead into the ground and keep
it in the ground all of the way to low point. Most players get
to impact and think that the stroke is over so the club goes
impact then up instead of the impact then down. By driving the
clubhead into the ground and NOT quitting the left wrist CANNOT
bend!

When the club goes through Impact and continues downward the
divots will go from shallow to deep and the length of them will
be from where the club entered the ground all the way to low
point.

For example, if the club entered the ground at a location
just underneath the left side of your chest then the divot would
start there and go to the outside edge of your left shoulder.
This means that the player is sustaining, what is called the
line of compression and gives shots that explosive sound!

3. They can't keep moving the right shoulder down plane far
enough.

Since the right shoulder, or shoulders, are part of both
the pivot and the power package its role is to provide support
and direction for the hands, arm, and club. If a player is using
just the arms and club but no right shoulder support then they
are only using two thirds of the available power.

If you look at swing photos of all the best players in the world
you'll notice that the lowest point of their right shoulder during the
stroke is well past impact. This means that their right shoulder is
moving down plane and providing the support necessary for a club
that is moving in excess of 100 miles an hour.

Look at the three best ball strikers that have ever played
golf. Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Moe Norman.

All three kept the right shoulder moving down plane.
All three maintained a bent right wrist past impact.
And all three drove the club into the ground.

If you want to be a great ball striker you've got to do these
three things.

There you have it. Work on these three things andf you WILL become
a better ball striker. But if you need help just give us a call or come and
visit us here in lovey Destin Florida!

Be safe and enyoy the Holidays.

Chuck & Randy

GOLFERS LOCKER ROOM BULLETIN BOARD

I am pleased to announce that you can listen to my mental golf tips weekly at GolfSmarterTips Podcast.

Hi Michael,

"I can't thank you enough for your mental keys. We were playing our club champs two weeks ago, and on the Saturday I had one of the most disasters golf rounds of my life. I'm am playing of a 7 handicap and I shot a 86 on the day, which put me in last place in the A devision.

"After the round I did promise my playing partners that I would come back the next day because I knew that I just had to fall back on your mental tips. The 3 mental tips that had done it for me were, "Half full or half empty" and "fear can only exist in the future" and "serving two masters".

"Believe me when I'm telling you, that after the third hole, I was explaining to my partners how I was going to make my shot and where I was going to land my ball because my confidence level was up. I shot a 74 on the day and evently end up coming second."

MENTAL TIP by MICHAEL ANTHONY

"The Importance of the Mental Game"

To fully comprehend the importance of the mental game of golf, a golfer has to clearly understand what is the purpose of the mental game, and how does one achieve a great mental game?

Almost daily, more and more research studies are being released that reveal that much of human behavior, health, and performance are affected by the chemistry of the brain. If a golfer knows how to control the variables that make up their mental game, they can positively influence the chemistry of the brain, and increase their performance.

One of the keys to developing a great mental game is to clearly realize that your mental state affects the chemistry of your brain, which in turn affects your ability to perform. Then, it's just a matter of reprogramming your mind to optimize your chemistry so you can play in the zone, or at your highest level of mechanical proficiency.

In this limited space I can only briefly touch on some of the mental keys that will help golfers to lower their score. Your thoughts, diet, exercise, rest, environment, and physiology affect the chemistry of your brain. While they are all important, the fastest way to lower your score is to change your thoughts from negative to positive.

The easiest way to do this is to understand that all of your thoughts have two components: facts and emotions. You may not like some of the facts that you experience during a round of golf, but it is important to realize that facts are merely facts - fair or unfair. It is even more important to become aware that it is the emotions you attach to these facts that affect your performance.

Positive emotions cause your brain to secrete beneficial chemicals that will improve your performance. Conversely, negative emotions cause your brain to secrete chemicals that adversely affect your performance. As simple as this concept sounds, it cannot be denied that you will always play better when you are positive, then when you are negative. Now you know why the mental game is so important.

All I have to do to help a golfer shoot lower scores at any level is show them how to reduce their negative emotions and increase their positive emotions. It is almost like magic and works every time if you use "The Mental Keys".

The more you learn to master your emotions, the better you will play at any level. The more you master your mechanics, the lower you will score. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

In golf most negative emotions originate from concern of the outcome. The key to controlling your emotions is to realize that you cannot serve two masters and be effective. You can choose to be process oriented or remain concerned with the outcome.

The only purpose that the outcome has is to give you direction and feedback to make the necessary adjustments to improve your mechanical and mental games. If you train your mind to focus solely on the process of improving and do the work, it is only a matter of time until you achieve your desired outcome.

If you insist on serving two masters by being concerned with the outcome while you are trying to improve the process, you greatly diminish your chances for success.

The next time you play a round of golf, stop looking over your shoulder at your score. Instead, play one shot at a time totally in the present. If you do, I guarantee you will end up with a lower score.
